Mozilla rolled out Firefox 67 for speed and fingerprinting protection

Firefox 67

Mozilla rolled out a new version of FireFox today i.e., FireFox 67 which is all about speed and fingerprinting protection. The team announced this in a blog post.

FireFox 67 is available for Windows, Linux, and MacOs.

To enhance the speed Mozilla is categorizing the scripts to essentials and non-essential scripts. When a user will start the browser it will load essential scripts and delay loading the non-essential scripts.

The team is also improved the autofill module and this will only be initialized when there will be form on the web page.

Mobile web browsers usually clear idle tabs from memory so that you get better performances when you’re doing something else. That’s why users sometimes have to reload the page when you switch to an old tab. Desktop browsers are now doing the same thing, including Firefox. If your memory falls below 400MB, some old tabs will get suspended.

Firefox 67 is also enhancing the privacy of the users by adding crypto mining and fingerprinting blocks. The team is partnering with Disconnect to get a list of rules and domain names that prevent your browser from loading dangerous content.

This module will be disabled by default but users can enable it from setting.

FireFox has also improved loading of add-ons and themes. Also, users can enable or disable some of the add-ons while private browsing. This is done to improve performance during private browsing.

About FireFox

FireFox is a free and  Open Source web browser developed by Mozilla Foundation. It is available for major used Operating systems like Windows, Linux, MacOS, Solaris, etc.

It was initially released in May 2002 and since its initial release, many versions are rolled out with some major updates.

FireFox is written in C++, JavaScript, HTML, C, and Rust and uses various engines like Gecko, Quantum, SpiderMonkey to perform various tasks.

Firefox was created in 2002 under the codename “Phoenix” by the Mozilla community members who desired a standalone browser, rather than the Mozilla Application Suite bundle.

During its beta phase, Firefox proved to be popular with its testers and was praised for its speed, security, and add-ons compared to Microsoft’s then-dominant Internet Explorer 6. Firefox was released on November 9, 2004, and challenged Internet Explorer’s dominance with 60 million downloads within nine months. Firefox is the spiritual successor of Netscape Navigator, as the Mozilla community was created by Netscape in 1998 before their acquisition by AOL.
