Google added a new region in Osaka for cloud business

Google Cloud Servers

Google today announced a new region for its cloud business i.e., in Osaka, Japan. This is the second region in Japan. With the new region, Google cloud reaches to twenty regions across the world. Out of these twenty, seven are located in the Asia Pacific region.

The Osaka region will join Tokyo region to improve the latency and provide better and fast networking to the customers.

It should be noted that only AWS is running with a single region in Japan. Microsoft Azure and Google cloud both are operating with two cloud regions.

“Two cloud regions in-country provide improved business continuity planning with distributed, secure infrastructure needed to meet IT and business requirements for disaster recovery. Services and support from our robust partner ecosystem in Japan,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian wrote today.

“We’re looking forward to the Osaka cloud region,” says Tatsuhito Chiku, Corporate Officer, General Manager, Information Technology Section at Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd (One of the major Google Cloud user in Japan). “Using Google Cloud Platform services like BigQuery have enabled us to build a system with low latency and high resiliency, and the Osaka cloud region will further improve our system availability and achieve business continuity.”

Google’s new decision to launch a new region is because of the growing customer base in Japan. Also, this was an important decision in terms of providing better computing solutions to the customers as well as lowering the latency.

With the introduction of the Osaka region, Google Cloud customers in Japan can expect:

  • A second Google Cloud Platform (GCP) region in Japan with three zones and a standard set of products, including Compute Engine, App Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Bigtable, Cloud Spanner, and BigQuery. Combined with the recent launch of Anthos, Japanese customers will benefit from having greater choice and flexibility to manage workloads on-premises and on any public cloud.
  • Two cloud regions in-country provide improved business continuity planning with the distributed, secure infrastructure needed to meet IT and business requirements for disaster recovery. Services and support from our robust partner ecosystem in Japan.
