Zomato acquires Runnr to boost its food delivery

Since long ago, it is rumored that Indian food search and delivery company Zomato is in talk with On-Demand logistics Runnr to acquire it. Rumor ends today as Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal  announced this acquisition in a blog post.

He wrote in blog —

For us at Zomato, we saw that we were going to be working with a team of extremely driven individuals who had figured out how to solve for a vital piece of our puzzle—the one that affects our user delight: logistics. With the combination of Zomato and Runnr, we have everything in the stack of building a delightful food delivery service in India and UAE – end to end – listings, discovery, reviews, ordering, and now, logistics.

Runnr was Founded in 2015 by former Ola executive Mohit Kumar, along with Arpit Dave, Vatsal Singhal, Aravind Reddy, Gnanesh Chillukuri and Mukunda NS, A large part of its clientele comprised restaurants, where Runnr handled home delivery of food. This apart, Runnr also gievs its service to businesses across categories such as e-commerce, grocery and pharma, among others.

Runnr co-founder and CEO Mohit Kumar and the rest of the Runnr team will continue to run the business independently.

Goyal said in blog that Runner will continue to function as an independent logistics firm and cater to companies other than Zomato as well, including pharmaceutical, grocery and e-commerce clients.

Zomato did not disclosed the amount of deal.
